3 weeks in Portland

Living in japan for over a year has had its effects on me. This became very clear during our 3 week stint in Portland.

1. Everything in America is uneccessarily big. It's almost as if the amount of space and land in America created pressure on the craniums of everyone who first created roads, food packaging, cars, buildings, homes, etc. to make things big, to fill the space up, to, perhaps, make up for a lack elsewhere? I don't know, but all around me I kept noticing how big everything was . . . especially the people, their egos, attitudes, waistlines, and self-indulgent personalities. It goes without saying that this didn't apply to everyone . . . but I said it anyway.

2. America is so full of flavor that is like those soft drinks we used to make at the convenience store where we would add all the sodas into one BIG GULP cup creating what in my area was known as the "Graveyard". Once it was all mixed together it tasted like shit.

3. Living in Japan, i was reminded of how much i miss the spontaneity of strangers talking to you on the bus, in line at the grocery store, at the bar, or wherever. This doesn't happen in Japan . . . most of the time you only have your interior monologue to chat with.

got to go now . . . more on these once I've had some time to put it together.

3.
