The Malaise of Hip Pop
It would definitely be a whole lot cooler if the video producers of hip hop videos were able to raise their originality above the mental capacity of my sphincter . . .
Imagine the think tanks behind the scenes who produce most of these videos . . .
. . . umm, okay so, we got this club right, and these bimbos in thongs, and a close up of (fill in the blank with any clucker mc) work a couple a these hos over, throw a Rolls, or Benz, or Escalade in for kicks, a gaggle of gold chains, some fake titties (yeah, actually, make 'em all have fake titties, fake contacts, fake lips, and fuck it, make the whole video synthetic), and then have his pseudo-crew front like they're hard, and boom, that's a wrap. Ohh yeah, and defintely make sure that his lyrics don't actually say shit, 'cept for stuff like "it's hot, she's hot, I'm hella hot, and the whole scene's hot" ad nauseum.
In case any of this sounds bizarre, or whack, or totally off, peep out any hip pop video on MTV, VH1, BET, or whatever, and you'll see the manifestation of the above scenario.
NOTE: There are those rare cats out there actually pushing the creative envelope, such as, Kayne West, Usher (a bit), Eminem ('cuz he actually knows the parodic mode quite well), and those who don't get videos published in the mainstream, or whom you'll never hear on radio or see on TV, like Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Blackalicious, Common, Jurassic 5, Wordsworth, Punchline, and others.
